have we made? What changes

In July 2022 Infinite Care added three residential aged care facilities through NSW. We knew there were a lot of changes to be made, food was one of them. Meals times need to be nourishing for mind, body and soul and that’s why as priority, we brought all our food and dining operations in-house, and consulted with our residents on the food they wanted to eat, and how they wanted to eat it.

This is just one of the many changes we have introduced, because we know the dining experience is vital for wellbeing, and an important part of connecting with others.

94% of the Central Coast’s Ocean beaches and Ocean Baths rated as ‘Good or Very Good’. C ouncil monitors 32 recreational sites across the Coast - 15 Ocean Beaches, 3 Ocean Baths, 4 Coastal Lagoons and 10 estuary sites (where river meets sea). Notably Toowoon Bay’s grading returned to Good an improvement on the 2021-2022 results, Terrigal Beach has been influenced by La Nina, again being graded as Poor in 2022–2023. Despite the Poor grade, water quality at this site this year was mostly suitable for swimming with 93% of samples within the safe swimming guidelines. Beach grades are a long-term assessment of water quality based on the last 100 samples taken, in this case over the last 4 years – which means the La Nina conditions are also included in the assessment and continue to influence the result. Council used the findings from the investigation to detect and resolve water quality issues in the catchment. In 2019, Council instigated a widespread audit of the sewer and stormwater network. This involved extensive in field and laboratory analysis to determine the pollution source, CCTV inspection of over 50 km of sewer pipes in the Terrigal beach and Lagoon catchments and the relining and upgrading of over 32 km of pipes, and smoke and dye testing to identify illegal connections. The 2022-23 has again seen poor results at all Central Coast estuary sites. This is reflective of the nature of these waterways which flush very slowly, and which have greater impact from stormwater networks. Council is undertaking ongoing studies to determine the causes of these poorer results and remedial work when infrastructure failure is detected. Recent DNA studies on microbial sources has detected human, canine, and avian sources to microbial contamination. Avoid swimming at ocean beaches for 24 hours after rain and 72 hours at estuary sites. Online Art Courses, to Empower Individuals A former university art teacher, Local Angela Miller’s innovative approach goes beyond traditional art classes. With a deep understanding of the human spirit, she uses art as a form of meditation and therapy. By tapping into the power of intuition and embracing the language of the heart, Angela guides participants on a transformative journey of self-discovery, emotional healing, and rejuvenation in a safe and supportive environment – in their own home, with her expert guidance. Interestingly, Angela never knows what she’s going to paint when she starts. She just starts with the colour and style that feels right in that moment and transforms each canvas into a masterpiece, the intuitive style she teaches becomes apparent. Art has long been recognised as a therapeutic medium for unlocking the depths of human emotions and restoring balance to our lives. Studies show that the creative process triggers a surge of happiness hormones, including dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins, which elevate mood, boost self-worth, and counteract the effects of stress and anxiety. It's a holistic approach that keeps our minds and bodies in harmony. Angela said, "Art has been my saving grace during the most challenging

years of my life, and I felt compelled to share it with others who may be struggling. It's not about the finished product, but the journey of self-discovery that art can take you on when used as a tool to heal and empower, especially when life may feel difficult." With her passionate and inspiring demeanour, Angela has captivated the hearts of thousands. Her online art courses have become a refuge for individuals seeking to rekindle their creative spirits. By embracing Angela's intuitive art and expression, participants not only find solace but also discover a renewed sense of purpose and joy. “Students tell me that it has improved their relationships as a result of finding confidence in themselves with a hobby they love that lifts their mood.” Angela proudly explains. Online courses start from $10 AUD for her “Art to Heal a Heart” course. Angela also offers a monthly subscription package that allows self paced learning and connecting to her community each week with video calls to support one another and provide handy tips and guidance. Professional Floor laying tips from ProFlooring

A nyone can click floor boards together, but there are a number of critical factors missed by would-be DIY’ers and even those that do not specialise in laying floors. These make the difference between a new floor to cherish and one to put up with.

3 critical points to get right:

1. Subfloors levelled to less than a 3mm dip over a 3m span. Cracks or old grout are not important, but ‘valleys’ and ‘puddles’ will ruin your enjoyment like a roof leak. Finding the dips is easier than fixing them as levelling is a skilled job where ‘close’ is not enough. 2. Leave a suitable expansion gap around EVERY bit of the new floor edge. We suggest removal and refitting of skirting so that this gap is neatly hidden. Some areas may need scotia or quad where there are no skirting or kick boards. A gap ‘most of the way’ around the new floor is not adequate and will create problems. 3. Architraves, doors and fiddly bits like stairs require practice and the right tools. Nothing stands out more than patched cuts and gaps. Most people can cut a 90⁰ angle, but very few houses are built with exact angles meaning that extra care and measuring is required to make trims and fittings ‘look’ right. Professional layers know this and look for it, making the finished job a pleasure to live with. The cost of getting it right is small beside the frustration and disappointment of living with faults. The type of new flooring is also an important factor. A quality laminate is the most scratch resistant and low maintenance

solution and with modern ranges, need not look ‘fake’. Strand Woven Bamboo is the most dent resistant option and there is now a wide range of colour options (we recommend you use 14mm thick, cold pressed products only). Engineered timber will give you a timber floor you can sand back in later years without expensive laying costs. Drop in to our new showroom a talk to us about your ideas and needs. Battery fires threatening lives M ember for Gosford, Liesl Tesch MP is urging residents

Rubys Home Store

to keep batteries out of household bins due to a growing number of battery-related fires across the state. Lithium battery fires in homes and garbage trucks and tips are increasing, with Fire and Rescue NSW responding to around three battery fires a week. Batteries contain a range of metals including lead, mercury and lithium which are hazardous when dealt with incorrectly.

The NSW Government has partnered with B-cycle, the national product stewardship scheme for batteries. B-cycle drop off points are available at large retail outlets, such as Woolworths Woy Woy, Bunnings Umina Beach, and Officeworks West Gosford. Community Recycling Centres and Household Chemical CleanOut events also accept batteries so you can now drop off small household batteries at over 1,000 locations across NSW for recycling. When a battery has reached the end of its life, the terminals should be taped with clear sticky tape. Once taped, batteries can be stored in a cool dry place, out of reach of children, before being taken to B-cycle drop off point or CRC for safe collection and recycling. Find your nearest drop off point at www.cleanout.com or www.bcycle.com.au. Products with batteries embedded in them, like phones, laptops, and power tools, should be disposed of at an e-waste recycling facility or e-waste drop-off event. To find out more about safe battery disposal, visit the EPA’s website.

Liver Suppor t The most vital organ for the natural detoxification system, the liver has well over 500 functions including those relating to blood filtration, hormone production & metabolism. Chlorella supports these essential functions and mitigates negative effects via removing toxins from the body while influencing insulin sensitivity. As Chlorella acts to directly to remove typical toxins, incidence of liver stress & inflammation is lowered. By improving insulin sensitivity, the likelihood of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease developing is thereby reduced. Digestive Health Digestive health is paramount & any issues in the filtering process lead to inflammation, compromised absorption & poor health. The main determinant of good gut health is the microbiome state. Here Chlorella excels, contributing to a diverse & thriving microbiome population by feeding beneficial bacteria + prebiotic fibre preventing excessive gut membrane permeability & inflammation. Additionally, Chlorella contains anti-inflammatory omega 3 fatty acids to reduce harmful effects caused by gut issues. It also contains the unique Chlorella growth factor (CGF) which helps repair the protein structures in the gut membrane. Richest Bio-available Plant Source of Iron Anaemia is the most common mineral deficiency estimated to affect over a billion people. Iron is an incredibly essential nutrient, predominantly due to the role it plays in haemoglobin. These iron-containing molecules transport oxygen in the blood required for respiration & energy metabolism. While iron supplementation is a common strategy to combat deficiencies, it frequently causes gastrointestinal distress. Chlorella is naturally high in iron and a more digestible bio available alternative. It also delivers important vitamins required to increase and maintain healthy iron levels in the body such as vitamin Chlorella offers supplemental benefits for aerobic health to enhance an already healthy lifestyle. Good aerobic capacity is not only a helpful indicator of good long-term health prospects; it also improves quality of life by increasing energy & ease of tasks. Chlorella helps to increase oxygen uptake in supporting training efforts (which itself offers huge benefits for health & longevity) and additionally increases mitochondrial biogenesis leading to better athletic performance. Assists with Weight Loss Chlorella assists with healthy weight loss. Healthy lifestyle choices leading to good metabolic health lead to increased muscle mass and decreased fat stores. Chlorella’s composition is very nutrient dense, high in protein & fibre (factors to achieve a temporary caloric deficit while helping to keep the body full & adequately nourished). Q: With so many people into Green “Super food” powders & tabs now, please confirm whether they’re really worth taking & if so which is the best? A: The huge popularity of Greens is well validated by their many virtues. It’s a resounding yes from me, especially having enjoyed them for 40+yrs. If real & clean they all offer great merits – but Chlorella is definitely No.1’. Here’s the basic rundown (without getting too technical). * Green Barley + Wheatgrass + Alfalfa (Green Fusion) = approx.1kg Organic green veg in 1 teaspoon! With an array of Nutritional, cleansing, bowel+ benefits & impressive as these are, it is the lowest Chlorophyll of the Super foods – hence the amazing power of Greens. *Algae delivers the highest potency & while quality Organic Spirulina is excellent food... **Chlorella is the indisputable best of the best – if indeed it is the genuine article** Yet all Chlorella is not the same with bio availability being even more crucial than usual. The cell wall must be cracked to be able to digest it – without compromising integrity. Great news – the best is now available via innovative Vacuum & Ultrasonic technology. Even better – for the 1st time ever now it’s actually being grown here in Australia Immune Support Billions of microbes invade the body through the skin/ inner lining of the digestive tract & thank God our immune system protects us in this harsh environment. Since the gut is a semi permeable point of contact, it must be well populated with immune cells to fight off any invaders. Chlorella enhances immune health by repairing & preserving the lining of the gut, improving frontline defence. It also reduces chronic inflammation that fatigues our immune system and compromises resources required to fend off an acute immune threat. Chlorella improves immune response through increased production of antibodies & lymphocytes. Detoxification Exposure to toxins happens via many unavoidable harmful substances + foods that aren’t Organic & clean. The body natural detoxification primarily relies on the kidneys, liver & gut to remove harmful toxins. However, this natural detoxification system often becomes overloaded. Toxins accumulate and cause harmful health effects. Chlorella is the ideal solution to help liver, kidney & gut health to improve natural detoxification. Being a chelating substance, Chlorella can draw numerous unwanted substances out of the body.

contributes to improved hormone health which causes certain individuals to retain body fat. Chlorella improves insulin sensitivity, good gut health and helps detoxify from hormone disrupting substances. These can regulate hormonal health which can help with health based weight loss – all why Chlorella has long Chlorella's profound effect to boost energy levels is a major benefit to improve daily wellbeing. The most essential micronutrients required for energy are B Vitamins (Especially B12), Vitamin C, Zinc, Iron & Magnesium – and Chlorella is a great source of these. Chlorella also helps improve hormonal health in specific ways including increasing insulin sensitivity which can prevent chronic fatigue before it potentially happens. Finally, chlorella combats symptoms of chronic inflammation that can be contributing to low-energy. Muscle Tissue Growth and Repair Muscle & tissue repair is crucial to everyone interested in improving their overall health. The body is in a constant state of cell turnover, whether building muscle and connective tissue, recovering from injuries, strengthening bone, or simply maintaining gut lining and skin integrity. All these processes require adequate building materials. Protein, vitamin c, zinc, and copper are particularly important for building collagen, one of the most prominent bodily tissues. Chlorella contains all of those, along with Chlorella growth factor (CGF) to further support repair & regeneration. CGF stimulate cells to develop into muscle cells facilitating muscle growth for improving daily & athletic physical function. Healthy Skin + Hair Unhealthy skin is often indicative of compromised gut, blood & lymph circulation issues, immunological problems, or hormone imbalances. Chlorella helps with those parameters & also reflects better health on the surface of the skin. Vitamins C, A, E, D, Zinc, B vitamins, as well as fats & proteins all play a role in maintaining skin health and Chlorella provides all these nutrients. Hair health is directly related to skin health as the condition of the scalp determines hair growth. Brain Health As our most complex organ, maintaining brain health is imperative. Many natural substances are being studied by scientists to determine if they have a positive impact. Chlorella has shown promising results for supporting nerve cell growth via high vitamin B12 content plus its presence of the unique Chlorella growth factor (CGF). Chlorella is further rich in several nutrients essential for good brain health i.e. Omega 3 fatty acids, B vitamins, Vitamin D, E, A, Choline, Iron, Copper, Selenium, Zinc & Iron. Its antioxidants may also play an important role in reducing inflammation and slowing cognitive decline. been used in weight-loss clinics. Boosts Energy Levels

Swift Parrot.

Time to ‘Spot a Swiftie’! I t’s time for Coasties to come together to help protect these critically endangered birds. While winter is the most likely time, you may still catch a glimpse of some late comers of two critically endangered birds, the Swift Parrot (Lathamus discolor) and the Regent Honeyeater (Anthochaera phrygia). Visiting the Central Coast in their search for nectar, Swift Parrots migrate to mainland Australia from Tasmania while Regent Honeyeaters tend to arrive from further west along the dividing range. The numbers of both species are alarmingly low and still falling, with total populations only in the hundreds. As with many of our species, habitat loss is a key reason for their decline. The formal survey period was completed in July but any citizen science data on these birds makes a significant contribution to the knowledge and conservation management for these species. BirdLife Australia also collects all incidental sightings of these two species made at any time of the year and at any mainland location. For the Regent Honeyeater sightings let them know ASAP by emailing woodlandbirds@birdlife.org.au or using the Freecall number 1800-621-056. To find out more about how to identify these birds and how you can help, visit https://birdlife.org.au/projects/ woodland-birds-for-biodiversity

E ven the most delicious food can get boring without a change in flavour or texture. For some dogs, eating the same food daily is a regular mealtime occurrence. A Rotational Diet What is a Rotational Diet?

containing only beef and feed this exclusively. Unfortunately, by doing this, the pet can develop a sensitivity to this new protein. Instead, it might be more beneficial for that pet to move onto a chicken-free diet that rotates between other protein sources varyingly. While most pet foods are formulated to meet guidelines, different brands can vary greatly in nutrient content, particularly for components such as amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids. Varying the diet that your pet is eating ensures that they are receiving a full spectrum of these essential ingredients. Unfortunately, even the most premium pet food manufacturers can make mistakes. A rotation diet can help protect you in case a manufacturer produces a vitamin deficient or nutritionally imbalanced batch and issues a recall. Most of the pets who became ill from the recalled food were fed the diet exclusively, with nothing else. If your pet is fed a rotation of a few different diets, they can draw nutrients from multiple sources. This means that in the case of any vitamin deficient batches produced by one manufacturer, your pet will have other diets to fall back on. When starting a rotation diet, it's best to do things slowly to avoid tummy upsets. At first, stick to one food for a few days at a time and provide transition meals (half food A / half food B) when rotating. Eventually your pet's tummy will get used to it and will be able to eat a different meal every day, or every couple of days (depending on what works for you).

involves feeding a variety of different food types, be it different brands, protein sources or forms, instead of staying on just one type of pet food continuously. Owners may keep a variety of pet food diets on hand and change between these in a regular alternating pattern. Rotating your dog's diet daily, every few days or weekly, depending on what works for your family, can provide important health benefits. Rotational diets were first introduced in the human nutrition world for people with food allergies or intolerances. Scores of people worldwide have anecdotally reported that by implementing a rotation of different food groups over a period of a few days, their food allergy symptoms significantly reduced. The intention is to allow a person to eat a wide range of food types, but ensure they leave 4 days between eating the same food twice. By providing short exposure to potential allergens, this helps keep up a tolerance without over-exposing, and helps treat current food allergies. While research into the field of rotational diets in animals is limited, many pet owners who have adopted this human-recommended diet report that it works extremely well for their pets with sensitivities and reduces their risk of developing further food intolerances. Some top nutritional experts in the veterinary academia world are also starting to advocate the theory. Sometimes, when a pet owner discovers their pet is allergic to one component of the food, such as chicken, they will swap over to a diet
