Taking your dog to the beach? Being a responsible dog owner there are certain precautions you must take: • Provide plenty of fresh water and shade for your dog. • Dogs can get sunburn, especially short-haired dogs and ones with pink skin and white hair. Limit your dog's exposure when the sun is strong. • Dry sand on a beach can become scorching hot during the day, and a lot of exposure to a dog's paws could lead to burns and a lot of pain for the dog. Avoid the beach at these times. • If your dog is out of shape, don't encourage him to run on the sand. • Do not allow them to drink seawater as the salt in the water will make him sick. • When you are ready to leave for the day, rinse him off with fresh water. • Do not allow your dog to eat anything at the beach. Many poisonous sea creatures that are washed up onto the shore are harmful if ingested, possibly even fatal. • Always head to the beach prepared; dog water bowl, lead and poo bags are a must! • Remember to supervise your dog at all times; it is your responsibility to keep them comfortable and safe whilst they are at the dog beach. If you think your dog is suffering from heatstroke, offer freshwater, move them to a cool environment and seek veterinary advice

the Government’s ongoing commitment to enhance digital pet registration processes, a new and improved NSW Pet Registry was launched. Pet owners and breeders can upload a photo of their pet on

the Pet Profile page to help identify and return the animal should it get lost or found. Where the microchip number of a lost cat or dog is known, a member of the public can use the Registry to send a secure message to the pet owner with their contact details alerting them that they have found their cat or dog. Prospective pet owners can use the Registry to find out important information before buying a cat or dog. Using a microchip, breeder identification or re-homing body number, they can access the animal’s breed, age, gender and whether or not it is desexed. In the case of a breeder or re-homing organisation, it brings up the business name and address. Pet breeders can create a litter and add offspring, making it easier for vets and authorised identifiers to update new animal records with microchip numbers. The improved Registry provides faster and easier pet registration and management services to pet owners, councils, veterinarians and animal welfare organisations. www.petregistry.nsw.gov.au or phone: 1300 134 460
