Elegance and Flexibility for Modern Kitchens

M iele’s TwoInOne cooktops present a new approach to kitchen design, combining advanced induction cooking technology with an integrated downdraught extractor. This appliance allows unobstructed views, making it ideal for open-plan kitchens where overhead cabinets or conventional rangehoods may detract from the overall architectural design. On the cooktop unit, the central extractor is framed by two variable PowerFlex zones. This allows the extractor to remove vapours and odours, reliably and precisely, where they originate. The extractor is only recognisable by its grille; technical components allowing recirculation or vented extraction are discretely hidden in a kitchen cabinet below the benchtop. PowerFlex technology is exceptionally versatile, as pots and frying pans with a variety of diameters can be used. It is also possible for two individual rings to join up automatically when large pots or pans are placed on the surface. The TwoInOne features touch controls for both the cooking zones and the extractor. However, in practice, there will be a tendency to rely on the extractor's automatic controls, made possible by Miele’s unique Con@ctivity function. This function automatically adjusts the power output of the extractor to the cooktop settings. At the end of cooking and after a brief fan run-on period, the extractor automatically switches itself off again. For optimum grease separation, the TwoInOne features a 10-ply stainless-steel

grease filter, housed in a practical filter box. This can be removed easily and placed in a dishwasher for cleaning. Miele's CleanCover is located behind the grease filters and constitutes a smooth lining which is both easy to clean and protects against exposure to moving parts. Any spillovers are contained by a tray below the extractor grille. The Eco Motor used in the downdraught extractor is powerful, energy-efficient and quiet. Technical components are housed in the base unit and take up relatively little space, maximising the retention of useful storage space in the base unit. Installed in a flush or proud-mount configuration, the Miele TwoInOne range is available from Miele Authorised Retailers around Australia or Shop online: miele.com.au

Flags-up for Central Coast beaches The 2022-23 beach season commenced early this year, with the red and yellow flags already placed in the sand at Central Coast Beaches. Council Unit Manager Leisure Beach Safety and Community Facilities, Phil Cantillon said while many of our beaches will be supervised, everyone needs to be surf smart. “It’s important for the community to know that when you visit one of our patrolled beach locations, you will be in good hands,” Mr Cantillon said. “Council’s lifeguards will patrol our shorelines from Monday to Friday, and Surf Life Saving volunteers keep everyone safe on weekends and public holidays”.“We remind all community members to be surf smart by swimming between the red and yellow flags, and to stay informed with weather updates and any subsequent beach closures on Council’s Facebook page”. “Board riders are asked to keep outside the black and white flags on each side of the red and yellow flags, as these indicate the surf craft exclusion zone.” Follow these other important safety tips: • Swim at supervised beaches only. • If you get into difficulty - stay calm, raise your arm, yell for assistance. • Never run or dive into water, as the depth can change quickly. • Children should always be supervised by an adult at all aquatic locations. • If you are unsure of the conditions, ask a lifeguard or lifesaver. • Always obey the signs which indicate any hazards present. • Always listen to the lifeguards and lifesavers. • Avoid swimming for at least one day after heavy rain to decrease exposure to stormwater pollution and be aware of obvious signs of pollution such as litter, odours and surface scums following heavy rain. • If you’re going rock fishing, be sure to plan ahead - wear appropriate safety equipment, let others know where you are going and carry a phone.

New Free Walking Tour App Showcases - The Entrance and Surrounding Suburbs A free interactive walking tour app developed by two local business owners in partnership with Central Coast Council was launched at the Lakes Festival on the 4th November. The project has been spear-headed by business owners, Sean Grobbelaar and Sam Gardiner, both passionate locals who wanted to create an activity-based app showcasing the area and encouraging visitors to interact with local businesses whilst using it. The app has been loaded with four initial routes which all depart from Memorial Park, The Entrance. The primary route follows the existing ‘Coast to Lake Walk’ and showcases interesting heritage and information about key points along the route. App users can also spin a lottery wheel to earn vouchers that can be redeemed in local businesses. “The next phase is to onboard local businesses with exclusive specials and discounts.” More walking routes are planned according to app co-developer, Sam Gardiner, “We’re looking forward to working with local businesses and residents to add new routes and experiences says Sean Grobbelaar. “The possibilities are endless. It’s a great way to showcase local art, culture, shopping, dining experiences and much more in the area.” “In addition to this, we’ve partnered with Take 3 for the Sea on certain walking stops in the app to raise awareness about plastic pollution and encourage the mindset of local environmental stewardship.” “We also plan on adding specialised educational tours that could be a great interactive excursion for local students.” Central Coast Council Manager for Community and Culture, Glenn Cannard says a lot of work has gone into developing the app. “It’s great that the council can support initiatives driven by dedicated locals like Sean and Sam, he said. “The app has great potential to showcase the area and we look forward to seeing where they take it in the future.” The ‘Experience the Entrance’ app is now live and can be accessed by scanning QR codes on signage around The Entrance.

Megasealed Bathroom and Balcony Rejuvenations A bathroom in good condition is one of the top ways to add value to your home. But a full bathroom renovation can also be one of the most expensive changes to make to your home. If you want to brighten up your bathroom, a rejuvenation can save you thousands of dollars. Megasealed can help make your shower and bathroom, walls and floors look new again without removing any tiles in most cases, with their rejuvenation packages. The service involves replacing the existing porous grout in your floor joints, perimeter and bottom row upright joints with a two part epoxy system to give a clean look, as well as making it waterproof andmore stain resistant. Megasealed’s two part epoxy system is also more flexible than a standard sand/cement grout. This can make a big difference in avoiding leaks by preventing grout degradation and water seeping through the grout joints. If you detect a leak: avoid using the shower areas, act quickly, determine whether the leak is caused by pipe issues, or comes through the tiles/grout. Megasealed will assist in this process with our free in home inspections and quotes. A leak can potentially lead to rotting to the subfloor or internal wall timbers underneath your tiles and it can potentially damage the structure of your home. Unwanted smells and damage to surrounding areas may occur, which can also attract white ants. Acting when the leak is first noticed will also save you a lot of money, as the longer you leave your shower or balcony to leak, the more dramatic and expensive the solution to fix will become. Call Megasealed Central Coast today for your free in home inspection. Call 1300 658 007 or visit www.megasealed.com.au

Lifejacket Servicing and Care

lifejacket was serviced on the inside of your lifejacket. Find your nearest lifejacket service location and set yourself automated servicing reminders. Sometimes, you can self-service a lifejacket by following the manufacturer's instructions. The instructions are either supplied with a new lifejacket, printed on the lifejacket itself, or available on the manufacturer's website. Lifejacket servicing info can be found in the Boating Handbook https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/documents/ maritime/licence/boating-handbook.pdf

L ifejackets areexposed toheat, sunandsalt, which means they can be easily subject to damage. Look after your lifejackets by rinsing off salt with fresh water, checking for damage after use, storing lifejackets in a dry, well-ventilated area out of sunlight, not using your lifejackets as cushions or fenders (bumpers), keeping lifejackets away from oil and fuel, removing new lifejackets from their plastic wrapping before storing. Inflatable lifejackets need extra care. An inflatable lifejacket can only save your life if it's in good working order. If it's not, you or one of your passengers could drown. Check your lifejacket before each boating trip and service it regularly. A pre-wear check takes a minute or two. Step 1: Check there are no visible signs of wear and tear. Step 2: Check that the CO2 cylinder is not

pierced and is screwed in firmly (hand tight). Step 3: If you have an auto-inflating lifejacket, check the auto-inflation cartridge is hand tight and that it's still in date. Cartridges must be replaced by the expiry date shown. Step 4: Finally, check the pull cord is free and ready to use. After use, remove the cartridge and rinse the lifejacket with fresh water. Dry the lifejacket and reconnect the cartridge before storing. In NSW, you must service inflatable lifejackets once a year, or in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. If you cannot remember when your lifejacket was last serviced, get it serviced straight away. Keep receipts and certificates as evidence of servicing. Keep a record of the date your

Beach wheelchairs and matting to improve access

T o improve access and inclusion for people with limited mobility or living with a disability, Council provides beach wheelchairs at 13 beaches and has installed beach matting at four popular locations this Summer season. With an abundance of beautiful beaches on the Coast, heading to the beach is a major part of our community’s lifestyle. Council is committed to the continual improvement of access for people with disabilities. Beach wheelchairs - available for free hire for residents and visitors at the following patrolled beaches: Avoca Beach, Copacabana Beach, Killcare Beach, Lakes Beach, Macmasters Beach, Ocean Beach (Umina), Shelly Beach, Soldiers Beach, Terrigal Beach, The Entrance, Toowoon Bay, Umina Beach, Wamberal Beach. To accommodate varied needs, there are three models of beach wheelchairs including the Sand Cruiser (available at all above locations), plus the Hippocampe and Water Wheel (at selected suitable locations).

While beach wheelchair hire can be arranged on site through the lifeguards at individual Surf Life Saving Clubs, online bookings are highly encouraged to ensure the preferred model of beach wheelchair is available. This is also the best way to arrange relocation of beach wheelchairs for individual or group bookings in advance. Beach matting - has been installed at Toowoon Bay, Umina Beach, Ocean Beach and Terrigal Beach this season to improve access for people who are less mobile and living with a disability. These beaches have been chosen because erosion is low to moderate and they are relatively flat. The bright, blue matting is rolled out and secured over the sand and usable by all beach goers providing a stable, non-slip, cool surface particularly for people who may use wheelchairs, mobility aids, or prams to have easier access across the sand. To book a beach wheelchair online or for more information visit centralcoast.nsw.gov.au and search ‘beach accessibility’.

THE EXPERT ask down this typical path leading to an aged care facility. Too many vibrant lives are needlessly ruined by chronic pain and harsh synthetic drugs that are definitely not a sustainable solution. Anyone who’s ever suffered with a bad back, swollen knees, painful & stiff joints, an aching neck and shoulders or even finger joints knows this all too well. Inflammation that’s not effectively addressed leads to a range of chronic health problems including debilitating arthritis and so must be brought under control. Australians everywhere are sick & tired of pathetic supposed pain relief products that fail to deliver. Though until now a seemingly a no-win situation it is indeed possible to break free of chronic pain. Obviously everyone really needs to be eating a clean anti-inflammatory diet to stay strong & well. While food alone is not potent enough, living a truly natural lifestyle will deal with exercise induced pain and retard the aging process, allowing us to keep enjoying way above average vibrant health. An Australian Research team of doctors has developed unique Natural anti-inflammatory formulas (PainGo®) in the form of powerful yet safe Herbal Capsules plus an easy to use Spray that will keep you functioning well again. The secret lies in increasing blood flow plus delivering a strong analgesic effect while dramatically reducing inflammation. PainGo® capsules provide remarkable relief from Osteo/Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Osteoporosis & even bone-on-bone pain via regular use of the highly refined herbal extracts. In combination with the Spray the results are really amazing. This is great news for many sufferers as the unsafe nature of Paracetamol is finally being exposed. Spray is undoubtedly the best topical delivery, but obviously it must really work or else is pointless. Professionally made PainGo® with its synergistically delivered formulation brings tremendous relief. This then increases as in suspension it powerfully penetrates when used as directed for the 1st 3days. In addition it will even bring out bruising while relieving & reducing painful swelling in only 2 days. Simply tipping herbs & oils into alcohol in typical marketing to take pain away is not good enough.

BY GEOFF GARLINGE

Q : “I’ve always been active, trained and played sport until acute pain has made it impossible to continue. Now I’m only just managing to play golf and really need to find a solution for my constant pain. I can’t bear the thought of becoming reliant on meds or having surgical replacements like my friends and family, having seen some terribly disappointing results. Are there any effective natural alternatives? I’m in trouble, desperate for help & ready to make whatever changes are necessary” A : In today’s world full of fake foods & a never ending stream of false hope panacea drugs, problems and concerns such as yours are rife. Alarmingly though not surprising, thousands of those doing various forms of physical activity from just 30 upwards are already breaking down in pain and even having their joints replaced – let alone seniors who have neglected being kind to their bodies. The catch cry of the fitness industry “If you don’t move it, you’ll lose it” is certainly true. Many suffer unnecessarily via not heeding this message all the way to losing their independence and seizing up before their time. On the other hand a multitude of individuals overdo it, again suffering painful & premature decline. Striking the delicate balance between an excessive fitness regime and a sedentary lifestyle is the key. Of course a regular exercise program is a crucial part of achieving an overall balanced healthy life. Nevertheless sport, gym workouts, running and in time even distance walking all cause painful inflammation leading to degeneration of connective tissue and progressive loss of mobility. When you’re young & feeling indestructible it’s difficult to receive this truth, but the sooner the better to embrace reality. In the absence of a natural preventative strategy we inevitably all end up suffering the same fate, with only a small percentage ever escaping the pain and enjoying their maximum enduring potential. Most people resort to taking prescription drugs (ALL have side effects) that simply mask problems, or rub in synthetic creams that are in fact toxic to the liver, leading to another long term disaster. Thankfully you're choosing not to go

PainGo® rather has genuine inbuilt integrity to deliver tangible results never before thought possible. To regain, increase, and retain your precious mobility you also need to work from the inside out to not only reduce chronic pain & inflammation, but further restore connective tissue & joint flexibility. Prevention is better than cure to hold back degeneration that robs us of quality of life. It is crucial to work on an ongoing functional & sustainable Natural strategy incorporating synergistic (the team being always best) Glycosaminoglycans + other vital components before bone-on-bone occurs. As per the following recommendations there is never one magic silver bullet remedy. Thank God by making better lifestyle choices you can actually get your life back & escape the pain. Wise people work on preserving & maintaining their body while still are able to, yet tragically the majority break down via being too lazy or unwilling to invest in their own health in order to thrive. Whether young or old, it’s never too early and not too late while still upright & walking to make the choice to improve your fitness & overall quality of life. Enjoy your days ahead 1. Exercise regularly but not excessively – avoid high impact sports for max joint longevity (Jog on soft sand/in ocean, Aqua aerobics, Pilates, stair walking, cycling, swimming & surfing best options) 2.. Reduce inflammation – chronic inflammation → degeneration (Diet, MSM, ICL Prof C, Boswellia, Aust. Org Flaxseed Oil, Curcumin 1300, Org MAQUI Activate, VB Chia Seeds, PainGo® Spray & Caps) 3. Stay well hydrated – min 1.5 litres of real Spring/ filtered water infused with CocoPro Concentrate 3. Preserve, restore & maintain joint integrity – BTC, Joint Essentials, Glucosamine HCL, HB Fish Oil 4. Maintain an alkaline state – acidic environment inflammation (Diet, Aust. Bee Pollen Granules, Green Fusion, Sun Chlorella, Spirulina, Tasmanian Org Cloudy Apple + Pure Georgian Cherry Juices) as you take control to power on! The basic recommendations are:

I f your home needs a little more TLC before selling, paint is one of the easiest ways to make tired rooms look new again and the golden rule of choosing paint colour when preparing a home for sale is to keep things neutral. "Whether you have a penchant for bright feature walls or your interior paint job is looking lacklustre, start with a fresh coat of white. Don’t forget to take the character of your home into consideration. If it’s modern, cool whites are a good option; but if you have a period home, greys and more ‘earth’-toned neutrals can work too. Commit to a colour scheme. Updating things like cushions and small decor is a really affordable way to refresh your space. Pick a colour scheme for each room and stick with it to keep things cohesive and get rid of any pieces that look dated or shabby. Add greenery, the easiest addition you can make to help your home feel more inviting at sale time. We are all drawn to something green and fresh, so whether it’s a plant in your living room or a vase of fresh flowers on the kitchen bench, make sure you have plants and flowers dotted around the house for that welcoming, homely feel. Update your bed linen, Investing in some beautiful linen and creating a fresh, inviting bed is a simple update that makes a huge difference. Choose bed linen that fits your bed properly, in a design that’s not too busy or overwhelming. Replace outdated furniture, investing in a few key pieces to style your space could be worthwhile. Try to choose pieces that make an impact in a room – either in their style or in showing buyers the versatility of a space. If a new sideboard helps make your dining space look clutter-free, or if a stylish sofa bed demonstrates the flexibility of your home office and these are things you know you can use in your next property, you’re on to a winner. loan rates and rents rise at their fastest levels in decades and forcing many to the brink of their budgets. As the price of everyday items also continues to soar, more and more are finding that it is harder than ever to just get by. Liesl Tesch, Member for Gosford encourages locals under financial stress to reach out and ask for help. Ms Tesch commends the efforts of the many local organisations and charities across the Central Coast that are

I know I need support, but howdo I ask for it? Many of us find it hard to ask for support. It can be difficult finding the right words to describe how you feel – and even harder, finding the right person to talk to. But having the support of others can help you cope with whatever it is you’re experiencing. Why should I talk to someone? Talking to someone in a safe space can help you figure out what you’re feeling. It’s a release that helps ease the burden of keeping whatever it is that’s bothering you a secret. By talking to someone and sharing your experience, you’re also forming closer connections with your friends, family, and the people you trust. If you’re nervous about talking to someone about your feelings, try practising what you will say and how you will say it. Choosing a location that makes you feel relaxed and uninterrupted will also help you remain calm and overcome some of the fears you might have about sharing your feelings. But I don’t knowwhat to say! What should I say? A lot of people struggle with this part. It can be overwhelming especially if you’re not sure how to describe what you’re feeling – or if the person you’re talking to understands. Sometimes it helps acknowledging that you don’t know what to say and that it is hard for you to talk about what you’re going through. "I don’t really know how to say this and I find it really difficult to talk about what I’m feeling." "This isn’t easy for me to talk about…I will do my best to explain." Decide what you want to share and try giving examples of what you’re experiencing; “I used to really look forward to footy training – but when it rolls around each Tuesday night, I just don’t care anymore.” “I enjoy hanging out with you, but when it comes to catching up, I get so overwhelmed that I don’t want to leave the house. And so, I cancel.” Be gentle with yourself and take as much time as you need. Share your thoughts and feelings in a way that is comfortable for you. If you are seeing a GP for the first time and know that you may feel daunted by the experience, a useful tip is to write down how you're feeling ahead of time. Here's a quote from one of our Forum members: "I frequently suggest to people that they write down their symptoms, feelings, thoughts etc before attending their appointments. That way you can refer to your paper without having to think about what to say. Trying to put into words your thoughts when you are already nervous can make you more nervous. So prepare ahead. The doctor will understand. If you still cannot speak then just give the paper to the doctor to read. I have done this on several occasions and it makes life a bit easier." I know how I feel but I don’t knowwhat I need You may need support, or you may just want to talk to someone about how you’re feeling. Either way, this conversation is a good opportunity to let people know what you need; “I don’t need solutions at the moment. I just need someone to listen. I’d just like to keep this between you and me at the moment.” Communicate as clearly as you can about what support you think you might need; “I’m not coping, and I need help figuring out what to do about it.” You or the person you’re talking to may not have the answers, and that's fine. But what if they’re not helpful? People process news and information differently. If you ask someone for support and they are not helpful, it can hurt. This could be a sign that the person you’re talking to doesn’t understand what you’re experiencing – it’s not a reflection of you. Try talking to someone else to get the support you need. Consider talking to your GP or you can also try using spaces like Beyond Blue Online Forums to chat online and share your experience anonymously with other people experiencing something similar to you. Beyond Blue Email can answer your questions about mental health for free and help you find services or resources. If you need support right now, you can talk or chat online to a counsellor Phone: 1300 224 636 Anytime 24/7

working hard throughout this crisis to ensure no one is left behind. “Many are dealing with significant strains on their budgets as keeping a roof over our heads, stocking the pantry, and filling up the car become more and more difficult. “It is important to remember that so many of us are dealing with these issues and needing and asking for help is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, especially when there are so many fellow Coasties willing to help. “I think what is important is knowledge – ensuring that we all know where to go when times are tough to access food, shelter, and assistance with rising bills.” Megan Maher at the Wyong Neighbourhood Centre Inc agrees that it is important for people to know that help is out there. “We are seeing a lot more people who would not normally use our services come in due to high rent increases or job losses. We offer them food assistance, as either pantry items or vouchers, and targeted intervention by referring them on to other services that can assist in terms of housing and financial help.” On the other end of the Central Coast inWoyWoy, Sean Mackinnon from Mary Mac’s Place is seeing the impact of the cost-of-living and housing crisis too, while also reminding that their doors remain open to those in need of food and temporary accommodation. “Here at Mary Mac’s you can see the struggle and the absolute generosity of the community. I want to see our visitors walk out of here in a better place than when they came in.” “We all have a social responsibility, and for those who can help we really need donations of food and money as well really do rely on the kindness of the community.” Ms Tesch says it is equally important that as more people find their budgets are not going as far as it used to, free financial counselling is a worthwhile tool available to stretch the value of a dollar. “The National Debt Helpline is a fantastic tool to help individuals and households to better manage their finances, particularly as mortgage repayments and rents take larger chunks each week out of our budgets.” For more information on how to contact a free financial counsellor, the National Debt Helpline is available weekdays 9:30am – 4:30pm by calling 1800 007 007.
