Neutral Colours Show Off Furnishings and Textures

B edrooms should be for relaxing, and using neutral tones can be the perfect start for a serene design. The textural elements of a room often get over looked. A neutral backdrop creates a welcoming interior when mixed with warm textures such as rough-hewn wooden elements, shiny tiles, nubby linens, and brushed velvets. Simply put, layering textiles is the key to creating a warm, well-designed space, and neutral colours allow you to create this space more easily. Neutral will always be a classic.

bedroom retreat. This is even more reason that you should choose a neutral backdrop for your interior. With a neutral background, your personal tastes can come to the forefront, allowing you to show-off all your cool design choices and personal style. There is a reason designers commonly choose neutral walls, especially in modern interiors, it allows the lines of high-quality furniture and the architecture of a room to come alive and be noticed.

If the mood strikes and you decide you need some vibrant hues in your life, then you simply add a few inexpensive pillows in a bold colour or buy a beautiful bouquet of bright or native flowers. Think of a neutral colour scheme as an investment, allowing you to avoid buyer’s remorse and ensuring an interior design that will never grow old. The bedroom in the image is a perfect example of neutral done right. Imagine this bedroom with bold walls, it certainly wouldn’t be the same calming

Strong summer for Central Coast tourism S trong summer for Central Coast tourism The Central Coast’s longstanding reputation as a tourist hotspot shows no signs of abating with the region proving a popular holiday destination for visitors during what was a picture perfect summer. Since December, many thousands of visitors from day-trippers to overnight stays, have flocked to the area making the most of everything the Coast has to offer. There was plenty for them to enjoy with beaches, national parks, walking trails, sporting, events, trips to the theatre or art gallery, and visiting our many tourist attractions on their itinerary. With more than 5000 people directly employed by the Central Coast tourism industry and many more in supporting local businesses this increased visitation was a welcome boost to many parts of the local economy. Over a billion dollars was injected into the Central Coast in the year-to-June 2022 with millions more expected as a direct result of the Christmas/New Year period. Council Administrator, Rik Hart said that the healthy visitation numbers haven’t compromised the focus on eco-tourism and is anticipating that Council’s events program for 2023 will encourage visitors to continue to enjoy the Central Coast. “There has been a shift in attitude in recent years with people making conscious decisions to travel to more sustainable destinations, and I think this trend is also reflected here on the Central Coast with visitors enjoying our many eco-certified experiences and natural assets,” said Mr Hart. “Pleasingly this year, we’ve also started to see the return of international visitors which will benefit local businesses and our economy. “With events such as the Harvest Festival, Central Coast Music Festival, and the Lakes Festival holding a special place in the hearts of the community and visitors who have a passion for those interests, 2023 is shaping up to be an exceptional year for local tourism.” To explore some of the fantastic experiences you can enjoy around our community visit LoveCentralCoast.com

Construction of Kariong Oval skate park and pump track

C ouncil has started construction of the new skate park and pump track at Kariong Oval which is designed for a range of ages, abilities, and wheels. The high quality active recreational space is due for completion by May and will provide an engaging space for local families and the broader community to connect and lead active outdoor lifestyles. Council DirectorCommunityandRecreation Services, Mel Smith said the community has shaped the design of the new skate park and pump track and informed the decision-making process for this project. “Community engagement activities were held in 2021 with design workshops and an online survey resulting in 302 submissions, with this valuable feedback guiding the concept designs to ensure they reflect the needs of the community,” Ms Smith said. “Community engagement identified a preference for a street style skate park and pump track with transitional flow and obstacles that cater to beginner and intermediate skill levels. The inclusion of seating, shade and water re-fill stations were also a priority by many members of the community – which are all reflected in the final designs, along with new landscaping, installation of waste bins and connective pathways. “The pump track is a continuous smooth track with banked curves and crests which can be used by a variety of ages and abilities on bikes, scooters, skateboards or skates.” The new skate park and pump track is conveniently located within the Kariong Oval precinct on the Curringa Road frontage with easy access to the library and adjoining carpark. The site is nestled between mature eucalyptus trees and connected open grassed areas, creating a central community space with opportunities for varied passive recreation for everyone to enjoy. This location also allows for natural surveillance which creates a safer environment and reduces anti-social behaviour. This new facility will replace and improve upon the existing skate bowl (located at the Central Coast Highway side of the oval) which is in poor condition and set for demolition once the new skate park is complete. Council Administrator Rik Hart said this project is a great example of how community participation in consultation

leads to real impact in the final design and delivery of new facilities. “We will continue to use community opinion and feedback to make informed decisions to deliver better services, community facilities, and projects for the Central Coast region.” This project is funded by Council’s general revenueandLocal InfrastructureContributions,

Kitchen Benchtop Options B enchtop options are only limited by your imagination and a material's ability to be made waterproof. There are many hardwearing options on the market that look great in kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms and are not expensive, including: Engineered stone benchtops - This popular choice of benchtop material for renovators is made using natural aggregates mixed with resins, it comes in a wide range of colours, from bright whites to dark greys. You can choose either a solid colour or have flecks of different-coloured stone through it to add interest. The non-porous surface is easy to clean, resists staining, scratching and doesn’t need any ongoing maintenance. Quartz is a common engineered stone benchtop. Laminated benchtops - Laminates are by far the most economical mass produced benchtop product on the market. Laminates are made from melamine resin. The thickness of the laminated benchtops is determined by the number of layers used. If your kitchen reno is on a tight budget then laminate should be your go-to, but that doesn’t mean you have to compromise on looks.

choose from. Stainless steel benchtops - Heat-resistant and hardy, it can be wrapped over worktops and island benches, formed seamlessly into sinks and kitchen splashbacks, and used for feature shelves, too. A chef’s dream. Embossed stainless steel comes in many patterns and hides scratches. It will require more cleaning than a regular stainless steel bench. Polished concrete benchtops - Formed concrete looks so cool…... What more do I need to say? If you are a keen do-it-your-selfer, "have a go" at constructing a concrete benchtop yourself. Otherwise you can hire a professional concrete polisher to create a unique bench for you. You will need to look after your concrete bench. It should not be left unsealed. It should be sealed with a polyurethane coating or something similar. Add raw contrast to timber or glossy joinery by using concrete on benchtops, over a wall as a cool backdrop to open shelves or as an island bench and top in one. Like stone, concrete requires sealing and is not practical for splashbacks. Porcelain benchtops - Porcelain benchtops are growing in popularity thanks to their durability, versatility and affordability. They can withstand high heats, scratches and stains and their low porosity makes them a very hygienic option.

Laminate has the widest range of colours and designs that imitate more expensive materials such as timber, stone and even concrete. That means you can get the look you’re after without the expensive price tag. It's resistant to staining and easy to keep clean but is more susceptible to scratching and scorching so always use a cutting board and be careful with hot pots and pans. Marble benchtops - a beautiful, natural stone that is commonly used in kitchens as a benchtop and splashback material. It's a timeless and sophisticated option but it comes at a substantial cost. Though it's surprisingly porous there are plenty of ways keep marble looking clean and brand new. Solid surface benchtops - are an acrylic resin with a filler of alumina. The joins between each piece of benchtop are invisible after installation, so it seems like one big slab of stone. You can also have the sink moulded into the benchtop so there’s nowhere for dirt to collect, making it easier to keep clean. It’s also UV resistant so is the perfect choice for an outdoor kitchen which is so popular these days. Granite benchtops - makes for an exquisite and enduring surface for your kitchen benchtop. Granite is considered the second most expensive material after marble. There is a stunning variety of styles and colours to

Achieve the high- end look with decorative concrete

S tamped concrete, often called textured or imprinted concrete, is concrete that replicates stones such as slate and flagstone, tile, brick and even wood. Ideal for new concrete work for beautifying pool decks, driveways, entries, courtyards, and patios, stamped concrete is the perfect outdoor paving choice. Recently, stamped concrete has become a popular choice for many homeowners because it offers a wide array of options when it comes to concrete patterns and concrete colours. Another factor contributing to its popularity is its price. The cost of stamped or imprinted concrete is often considerably lower than the materials it is a substitute for. Concrete is the perfect canvas for creating a cost effective replica of more expensive materials, without giving up a natural, authentic look. When choosing colours and patterns, make sure they blend with other stone, tile or textured concrete elements at your residence. Even in complex designs with steps and fountains, patterns can still be pressed into the concrete. Stamped concrete can also be used in conjunction with other decorative concrete elements such as exposed aggregate or acid staining. Popular patterns include running bond brick, hexagonal tile, worn rock or stone. Stencil patterns, colours and designs can be applied to new and existing concrete to enhance or rejuvenate any concrete surface. Images courtesy Concrete Colour Solutions

The Life extending power of antioxidants - Which Foods are best?

Cooking by Colour With red foods, such as tomatoes, heat is important for optimal lycopene absorption because it breaks down the cell wall to unleash potency. Overcooking kills nutrients in green foods, such as broccoli. If you do cook it, lightly sauté or steam. Never microwave broccoli because the intense heat drains all of the nutrients. The same goes for boiling; you’ll notice your water turns green. The colour is where all the nutrients are. Chop florets in half or quarters to get the healthful enzymes to emerge. Artichokes are one of the only foods that stand up to the cooking process and maintain nutrients if cooked. It’s best to cook carrots whole; cutting them allows more nutrients to escape. When making sweet potatoes, bake, broil and/or steam. Further, the nutrients are contained when the potato is cooked in its own skin, so resist the urge to peel! Complete your colour wheel with wild salmon for added benefits from antioxidants. Baking, broiling, poaching and steaming are the best methods to cook salmon. Frying salmon or any fish will sap the nutrients. Grilling salmon on an outdoor grill can add cancer-causing heterocyclic amines, or HCAs. If you crave grilled salmon, adding rosemary before grilling may actually combat HCA production. The Key antioxidant foods are fruits and vegetables, with different antioxidants being linked to the presence of specific colours. The general recommendation is to consume at least two servings of fruits and five servings of vegetables along with a few nuts (for Vitamin E) per day. Does freezing affect antioxidant activity? Fortunately freezing has no effect on antioxidant activity. Testing has indicated that because the foods are so fresh when frozen they have retained their maximum antioxidant potential.

and orange contain vitamin A, which helps maintain healthy organs and prevents bacteria from growing. Vitamin A helps prevent cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, and even depression. Bananas contain beta-carotene and vitamins A, C and E, lutein, and selenium. The riper the banana, the higher the antioxidants – so don’t throw them out when they start to turn brown. Carrots are also an excellent source of vitamin A, and butternut squash is loaded with antioxidants. Get at least two servings of yellow or orange fruits and vegetables in every day! Purple Powerhouses Foods with purple skins contain anthocyanins, which protect cells from damage and heal already damaged cells. These foods promote eye health and help to prevent cancer, diabetes and stroke. They help to relax blood vessels which have heart benefits, and can lower LDL. Include purple fruits and veggies four to five times per week. Plums or prunes, blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, and black currants are all good sources of anthocyanins – the darker the pigment, the higher the amount of antioxidants. Red wine is also a good source of anthocyanins. Cabernet has the highest level of antioxidants. Wine contains resveratrol, which can prevent heart disease by increasing levels of good cholesterol and protecting against arterial damage. Always drink any type of alcohol in moderation. For women, one 4-ounce glass of red wine per day is plenty. Race to the Reds Cherries and strawberries are packed with anthocyanins, flavonoids that may help in reducing blood pressure and LDL cholesterol). Tomatoes are a good source of lycopene, an antioxidant that may help protect cells from damage.

We’ve all heard of free radicals, yet, many of us are not quite sure what they are or why they’re so scary. Free radicals are unstable molecules, produced by normal bodily functions, which can cause damage to cells. But what if we had a sheet of armour to protect ourselves from them? As it turns out, we do, and it’s found in deeply hued fruits and vegetables. When we eat these foods, we benefit from a natural defense system that includes anthocyanins, flavonoids, lutein, lycopene, catechins, selenium, coenzyme Q10, and vitamins C and E. Make it a goal to have at least five colours represented in your diet every day. Including a variety of colourful fruits and veggies will increase the number of antioxidants you consume, resulting in a more fit and fantastic you at the end of the rainbow. Second, prepare them in a way that gives you the most benefits for your nutritional health. Go for Greens Green foods contain vitamin C, vitamin E, quercetin (a flavanoid), and sulforaphane. Just one cup or a fist-size portion of green foods per day provides plenty of antioxidants. Cruciferous veggies such as broccoli, spinach and parsley contain isothiocynates (ITCs), which are important for detoxification. Spinach contains a very high level of antioxidant activity and just one cup provides all of your vitamin A and K for the day, as well as folate. Spinach is powerful in preventing cancer, especially prostate cancer. Combining vitamin C with your spinach enhances iron absorption, so throw in some additional colour by adding mandarins or oranges to your spinach salad. Green tea is noted for its high amount of catechins, antioxidants that may aid in cancer prevention as well as all the leafy greens like kale and cruciferous veggies like Brussels sprouts and cauliflower. Say Yes to Yellow and Orange Fruits and veggies that are bright yellow

THE EXPERT ask down this typical path leading to an aged care facility. Too many vibrant lives are needlessly ruined by chronic pain and harsh synthetic drugs that are definitely not a sustainable solution. Anyone who’s ever suffered with a bad back, swollen knees, painful & stiff joints, an aching neck and shoulders or even finger joints knows this all too well. Inflammation that’s not effectively addressed leads to a range of chronic health problems including debilitating arthritis and so must be brought under control. Australians everywhere are sick & tired of pathetic supposed pain relief products that fail to deliver. Though until now a seemingly a no-win situation it is indeed possible to break free of chronic pain. Obviously everyone really needs to be eating a clean anti-inflammatory diet to stay strong & well. While food alone is not potent enough, living a truly natural lifestyle will deal with exercise induced pain and retard the aging process, allowing us to keep enjoying way above average vibrant health. An Australian Research team of doctors has developed unique Natural anti-inflammatory formulas (PainGo®) in the form of powerful yet safe Herbal Capsules plus an easy to use Spray that will keep you functioning well again. The secret lies in increasing blood flow plus delivering a strong analgesic effect while dramatically reducing inflammation. PainGo® capsules provide remarkable relief from Osteo/Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Osteoporosis & even bone-on-bone pain via regular use of the highly refined herbal extracts. In combination with the Spray the results are really amazing. This is great news for many sufferers as the unsafe nature of Paracetamol is finally being exposed. Spray is undoubtedly the best topical delivery, but obviously it must really work or else is pointless. Professionally made PainGo® with its synergistically delivered formulation brings tremendous relief. This then increases as in suspension it powerfully penetrates when used as directed for the 1st 3days. In addition it will even bring out bruising while relieving & reducing painful swelling in only 2 days. Simply tipping herbs & oils into alcohol in typical marketing to take pain away is not good enough.

BY GEOFF GARLINGE

Q : “I’ve always been active, trained and played sport until acute pain has made it impossible to continue. Now I’m only just managing to play golf and really need to find a solution for my constant pain. I can’t bear the thought of becoming reliant on meds or having surgical replacements like my friends and family, having seen some terribly disappointing results. Are there any effective natural alternatives? I’m in trouble, desperate for help & ready to make whatever changes are necessary” A : In today’s world full of fake foods & a never ending stream of false hope panacea drugs, problems and concerns such as yours are rife. Alarmingly though not surprising, thousands of those doing various forms of physical activity from just 30 upwards are already breaking down in pain and even having their joints replaced – let alone seniors who have neglected being kind to their bodies. The catch cry of the fitness industry “If you don’t move it, you’ll lose it” is certainly true. Many suffer unnecessarily via not heeding this message all the way to losing their independence and seizing up before their time. On the other hand a multitude of individuals overdo it, again suffering painful & premature decline. Striking the delicate balance between an excessive fitness regime and a sedentary lifestyle is the key. Of course a regular exercise program is a crucial part of achieving an overall balanced healthy life. Nevertheless sport, gym workouts, running and in time even distance walking all cause painful inflammation leading to degeneration of connective tissue and progressive loss of mobility. When you’re young & feeling indestructible it’s difficult to receive this truth, but the sooner the better to embrace reality. In the absence of a natural preventative strategy we inevitably all end up suffering the same fate, with only a small percentage ever escaping the pain and enjoying their maximum enduring potential. Most people resort to taking prescription drugs (ALL have side effects) that simply mask problems, or rub in synthetic creams that are in fact toxic to the liver, leading to another long term disaster. Thankfully you're choosing not to go

PainGo® rather has genuine inbuilt integrity to deliver tangible results never before thought possible. To regain, increase, and retain your precious mobility you also need to work from the inside out to not only reduce chronic pain & inflammation, but further restore connective tissue & joint flexibility. Prevention is better than cure to hold back degeneration that robs us of quality of life. It is crucial to work on an ongoing functional & sustainable Natural strategy incorporating synergistic (the team being always best) Glycosaminoglycans + other vital components before bone-on-bone occurs. As per the following recommendations there is never one magic silver bullet remedy. Thank God by making better lifestyle choices you can actually get your life back & escape the pain. Wise people work on preserving & maintaining their body while still are able to, yet tragically the majority break down via being too lazy or unwilling to invest in their own health in order to thrive. Whether young or old, it’s never too early and not too late while still upright & walking to make the choice to improve your fitness & overall quality of life. Enjoy your days ahead 1. Exercise regularly but not excessively – avoid high impact sports for max joint longevity (Jog on soft sand/in ocean, Aqua aerobics, Pilates, stair walking, cycling, swimming & surfing best options) 2.. Reduce inflammation – chronic inflammation → degeneration (Diet, MSM, ICL Prof C, Boswellia, Aust. Org Flaxseed Oil, Curcumin 1300, Org MAQUI Activate, VB Chia Seeds, PainGo® Spray & Caps) 3. Stay well hydrated – min 1.5 litres of real Spring/ filtered water infused with CocoPro Concentrate 3. Attractive ways to add privacy to your home A s larger houses occupy smaller lots and the demand for outdoor living areas grow, privacy is at a premium. It’s not just about prying eyes invading your space, you may want to shield your own view and block out noise, create privacy and add graphic impact and chic separation. A decorative screen is a sculptural piece which you can style in a truly personal way. There are many graphic styles and concepts to choose from for interiors and exteriors so think about which style would best suit the look and feel of your home. Be clear about what you are trying to screen - is it just visual or is it acoustic as well to help reduce noise? Today's material options and styles are many, and seeing modern architectural materials meeting with traditional concepts is nothing short of amazing. Contemporary materials can include: MDF - which is a compressed wood, timber and glue product sold in varying sheet thickness. MDF can be laser cut quickly and thickly and it is lightweight and very easy to install. This creative wooden material can also be used in cabinetry work and is a fantastic medium for laser cut decorative screens inside the home. Weathered steel can look stunning in residential architecture. It has a few different names, including "CorTen" and "Rusted steel". This beautiful product has been intentionally altered to quicken the rusting effect. If you do use it internally, you must ensure it does not come in contact with water as this will cause rust staining. If you are thinking about using weathered steel externally, ensure the screen can drip into a pond or onto grass or a material that is complemented by rust staining. Plastic and Acrylic - When it comes to these products there is a wide variety of colours, finishes and textures available. Metal screens can be made of any kind of sturdy construction sheeting, including smooth mild steel, patterned stainless steel, copper and powder coated aluminium. All metal forms are readily laser cut and provide the strength required for intricate designs and pattern work.

I t's a frustration for countless men and women entering middle age. But is having a 'big middle' an inevitable part of middle age? As we get older our proportion of fat to body weight increases and this poses a serious threat to our overall health and well being. The fat that normally parks itself around the tummy area is known as visceral fat. Visceral fat is body fat that is stored within the abdominal cavity and is therefore stored around a number of important internal organs such as the liver, pancreas and intestines. Storing higher amounts of visceral fat is associated with increased risks of a number of health problems including type 2 diabetes. Skipping is one of the best fat burning exercises. Skip 5-10 minutes every day for a full body workout. Did you know that 10 minutes of skipping is equivalent to running 1.6 kilometres in 8 minutes? 1 hour of skipping will burn 1300 calories, skipping is a full body workout which uses your abdominals to stabilise the body, legs for jumping, shoulders and arms for turning the rope, skipping is much kinder to the joints than running, cheap-no joining fees only a one off cost for the rope. Regular skipping improves heart rate and blood pressure, skipping is a great work out for people of varying fitness levels and ages as you can do it at your own pace, regular skipping improves flexibility, skipping helps improve coordination and balance, and regular skipping improves muscle tone in the upper and lower body, and is a weight bearing exercise therefore it is an excellent preventative measure for osteoporoses. So what are you waiting for? Skip yourself to good health.
